记忆生词分为三步：注意单词，选择单词，记忆单词。

第一步，注意单词。注意单词的方法是加强朗读。同学们在掌握了某个生词的读音之后，不要迫不及待地去书写，以书写加强记忆。以书写来记忆生词固然速度快，但仅靠书写达到长时间记忆是不可能的。英语相对于汉语最显著的特点是音和形的完整结合。正确地朗读生词对记忆有很大的帮助。朗读生词使大家对于单词的读解经历三个步骤：一、理清单词的脉络，即元音字母和辅音字母的搭配；二、自动地与其他音、形相近的生词区别开来；三、音、形、义的结合。朗读的结果，使我们头脑中产生某个单词的条件反射，达到长期记忆的目的。

第二步，选择单词。选择单词有两方面的含义：一、音、形、义之间的相互选择；二、选择容易出错的单词。选择的主要手段是自我检测，其步骤是：（1）读生词一至二遍；（2）取一张纸条，摘录所学单词的汉语意思；（3）再朗读生词一遍；（4）根据汉语默写英语；（5）自我阅卷。选择写错的单词，分析错因。如：漏写和错写字母等；（6）自我检测所错生词，一直到不再出错。选择单词这个环节将对单词的表象认识转变为本质认识。
