1607 年∶詹姆士镇〈Jamestown〉北美洲第一个英国永久殖民地，成立于詹姆士河〈James River〉畔。

1699 年∶维吉尼亚的首府从詹姆士镇迁移至威廉斯堡〈Williamsburg〉，后来又迁移至詹姆士河的上游李奇蒙〈Richmond〉。

1775 年∶对英国开战，维州爱国者帕特里克•亨利〈Patrick Henry〉在李奇蒙发表了他有名的演说∶『不自由，吾宁死！』〈Give me liberty or give me death〉 。
